Yes, Plugzio be installed as a retrofit.
Having said that, existing outlets in parking spaces often share electrical circuits (i.e. 5-10 outlets are on the same breaker) which is not a good fit for EV charging since if one EV is getting charged, the second one (on the same circuit) will cause the breaker to trip. This is exactly the same scenario as your kitchen, if your toaster and air-fryer are plugged into the same circuit, you cannot turn them both on at the same time.
So you need to have an electrician inspect the existing outlets to make sure they are not sharing the same circuit. We can help you with this process.
In case the outlets are sharing circuits then there are two ways to resolve the issue:
- We can replace one of the outlets on the circuit with Plugzio and block off the other outlets, this way the circuit will become dedicated to that specific outlet. This is useful if only one EV owner wants to use an outlet to charge their car.
- We can run new electrical lines to the parking spaces that need them. Often we choose parking spaces that are close the electrical room to reduce the installation cost.
